Large turnout for the swearing in of 3 new Ventnor firefighters.

Mayor Beth Holtzman did the honors at the recent Ventnor Commissioners meeting of Feb 28.

A total of 246 members have served as firefighters for Ventnor since 1906.

Ventnor Fire Department currently consists of 45 fire fighter/ EMT’s.

Anthony Ventura, William Hodson, and Anthony Richey were sworn into the Ventnor Fire Department on Feb 27. See photos:

About the Ventnor City Fire Department

The Ventnor City Fire Department has responded to an average of 3358 calls per year (average of years 2018-2014) or 9.2 calls per day.

Ventnor City Fire Company was formed as a volunteer organization on May 27, 1906.

David Stuart was hired as Ventnor City’s 1st career fire fighter/ paid driver operator in 1908

Ventnor City Fire Company thought to have 1st response by motorized apparatus to a structure fire in State of NJ on September 14, 1919.

On January 10, 1910 the city passed an ordinance creating the Ventnor City Fire Department, absorbing the volunteers & equipment of the Fire Company beginning the transition to a career department.

In the mid 1920’s the Ventnor City Fire Department began ambulance service in the city, a tradition that continues to this day.

The Ventnor City Fire Department became a 100% career fire department in the late 1920’s.

The Ventnor City Fire Department was the 1st fire department in Atlantic County to have a dedicated fire radio channel & maintains the dispatch designation of 1 Fire 1.

The Ventnor City Fire Department established a Fire Prevention Bureau in May 1963 to conduct inspections in the city.
