Who’s Responsible? Atlantic City MUA Water Safety Failure.

Three days of contaminated drinking water in Atlantic City. Bottled water in short supply. Communication confusing and spotty.

From what we understand, the Atlantic City MUA water treatment filters were overloaded with iron sludge; contaminants that may cause major harm to those who use Atlantic City water.

What caused this city-wide emergency? What took so long to warn residents? Who’s responsible for this public safety screw-up?

The Atlantic City Municipal Utilities Authority (MUA) is governed by a five member Board of Directors who establish ACMUA policy.

Since Feb 2022, socialite Gary Hill has been chairman of the AC MUA. He joined the board in 2010.

Michael Armstrong has been Executive Director of the ACMUA since February 8, 2021.

Armstrong is responsible for all drinking water treatment and distribution to Atlantic City. See additional Armstrong background here.

Both Armstrong and Hill have remained quiet during this crisis.

According to social media, Hill still on vacation during this MUA crisis.

MUA was un-prepared for the emergency. City fumbled communications. A mess all around.

In 2017, Atlantic City council voted NO to give Gary Hill another 5 year term at the MUA/Atlantic City Water Company. The vote was somehow ignored or over-turned. Today, in 2024, Gary Hill effectively controls the AC MUA as Chairman.

In 2016, Gary Hill wanted to hand out cash gifts for himself and other MUA members.

When confronted, Hill said he didn’t read what he signed off on.

ACUA Has problems too.

In 2017, Margate & Ventnor residents finally warned of contaminated back-bay water on Sept 26, 2017. A ruptured, raw sewage pipe at Bader Field. Local newspapers ignored story for 3 days.

  1. Gary Hill is ultimately responsible for this water catastrophe. Watch Hill and husband John rent their gold-plated palace to asylum seekers.

  2. A concerned citizen Anne

I thought this do nothing, every board sitting socialite was thrown off the MUA years ago? Somehow he weaseled his way back on through DO NOTHING Councilman SHABAZZ.

He (Gary Hill ) obviously could care less about the safety of our drinking water. CUT YOUR VACATION SHORT AND TEND TO AN EMERGENCY THAT COULD POTENTIALLY EFFECT THE HEALTH AND WELL BEING OF THE CITIZENS OF ATLANTIC CITY!

Hill obviously cares more about a money grab and bolting out of town, then the people of the city in my opinion.

Typical, very typical for these jokers.
