Lower Dunes in Ventnor. Reshaping Coastline of the South Jersey Shore

VIDEO > You’re not imagining things. Some North Ventnor dunes are actually getting lowered, due to a decades old rule. But on the southern end of the Ventnor Boardwalk, the ocean & beach views will soon be partially obstructed. NEW dune building in South Ventnor will take place over the next 2 weeks. New dunes there, will soon block ocean views for those sitting on the boardwalk benches.

Watch our interview with Glenn Klotz, a Downbeach native. He’s been involved with various citizen groups that smartly push back against ‘one size fits all solutions’ to protect Margate and Ventnor homes, families and investments.

Glenn talks about the ‘Parks Act’ a mandate from very long ago, that says Ventnor dunes can’t be higher than the top rail of the Boardwalk.

That’s why we’re seeing bulldozers leveling some Ventnor dunes… down. Some have grown to heights as much as 20 feet in elevation!

Glenn recalls an early group he formed called DUNE; Don’t Upset the Natural Environment. This org was a predecessor to MCQBP, Margate Citizens Questioning the Dune Project.

Glenn Klotz says: Contrary to popular belief everyone of these Projects has been adjusted for local peculiarities and this is only one example. Ventnor is the only example in NJ where the height of the berm/dune is adjusted.

Thomas Madamba: What’s even funnier is the Ventnor is the highest point so why are they lowering the sand if the same was all brought to that height there wouldn’t be a problem it is only where it gets more shallow toward Longport that’s sand replenishment should be created

Lenny Mordell: Good job Down Beach Buzz for interviewing someone who seems to have the real story of beach work in Ventnor. Of course Margate is a different story.

Ventnor Ocean Condos: When I walked with Franky and Robin yesterday we noticed the flattening of the Ventnor dunes. We were wondering why they were being flattened? Now we know.
