While Downbeach officials remain quiet about wind turbines and dead whales, Congressman Jeff Van Drew remains a lone voice in the fight against offshore wind farms.

Downbeach Mayors Remain Silent: Offshore Wind Turbines and Dead Whales

Mayor Landgraf of Ventnor, Mayor Collins of Margate and Mayor Russo of Longport still absent in this fight against experimental wind farms off the Jersey coast.

All three Downbeach towns accepted money from a wind consortium called Pro-NJ Grantor Trust.

  • Ventnor received $546,003
  • Margate received $446,880
  • Longport received $368,750

Van Drew: We rely on tourism and fishing. Wind turbines are very expensive and very inefficient. No proof they can hold up under a hurricane.

Wind companies are mostly foreign controlled. Why would we allow foreign countries to control our energy?

Brian Jackson, COO of Stockton Atlantic City and Barbara Gaba, President of Atlantic Cape Community College were tasked with handing out this cycle of ‘wind’ money.

Van Drew: We had major loss of whales because of harmful sonic testing and sonar mapping. Commercial fishermen and recreational fishermen are universally opposed to this.

Structures that are a 1,000 ft tall built on millions of acres of sea floor.

Utility bills are going to increase drastically because of the wind turbines

It’s certainly good for those folks that are going to make money off of all this and they are heavily subsidized.

Van Drew: Wind turbine companies get tax breaks. These wind turbines will only last 15 years if we’re lucky. Who’s going to be responsible for taking them down? They’re just going to cut them down at the base and leave rest of the structure there in our ocean.

Foreign interests controlling our energy. How dangerous that is. This is all bad except for a select few people that are going to make a whole hell of a lot of money.

  1. Sickening. Thanks to Van Drew and all others pushing against this. For a little money they’d rather ruin the island. Get these politicians out!!!
