Another Ventnor Fishing Pier Upgrade for 2023

Another upgrade for the iconic Ventnor Fishing Pier, the longest pier in New Jersey.

The Ventnor Fishing Pier at Cambridge and the Boardwalk measures 1,000 ft in length.

At that size, managing the pier gets tough during the summer season. Especially when it comes to fshing.

To alleviate that issue, Ventnor is now building a small, kiosk-like booth closer to the fishing action.

A new pier office for the ‘pier master’ on duty. The structure will be integrated into the security gate separating the fishing area of the pier.

The wooden walkway is the perfect size for a stroll.

Amazing views of casinos in the distance. A location of choice for watching the Atlantic City Airshow.

Boardwalk pedestrians enjoy a long stroll over the beach and crashing surf below. It really is something special.

Plenty of benches, seating and bike racks are available.

A separate section at the furthest point is reserved for fishing. Anglers pay a daily, weekly or seasonal fee.

The current Ventnor Pier underwent a nine-month $3.2 million renovation project in 2007, and reopened on July 4, 2008.

Everybody Loves the Ventnor Fishing Pier. What about Margate?

Margate officials once considered a boardwalk / pier combo. Ultimately, they decided against it. Too much blowback from beachfront homeowners. Loss of ‘privacy’ was the concern.

Margate does have a fishing pier. It’s private, members-only.

Margate Commissioner John Amodeo supported state money being used for extending the private, members-only pier belonging to the Anglers Club of Absecon Island, also known as the Margate Fishing Pier.

Note: If NJ state provides funds to municipality, the finished project (longer pier) must be accessible to the general public?

Margate’s need for open space. Instead of a small boardwalk and pier, Margate Commissioners Maury Blumberg and John Amodeo directed public money towards upgrading infrastructure adjacent to privately owned, Amherst Ave bayfront businesses. AKA: ‘Margate Promenade‘.

Amodeo & Blumberg’s Sweet Lamberti’s Deal. Trading prime, public real estate for a small bulkhead replacement; Lamberti Amherst deal was supported by Commissioners Maury Blumberg and John Amodeo.
